About Sophia

Allow me to reflect back to you all of the possibilities, strengths, intuition, and magic that you posses. Let's create a healing space where we can offer grace, compassion, curiosity and all that your heart desires and needs for acknowledging where you've been, where you are in this moment, and where you want to go. Whether you are reeling from a loss; needing support with relationships; wanting to cultivate more of a sense of identity, purpose and belonging; ready to process trauma and soothe the nervous system; vent and cope with the state of the world; find and follow your bliss, or anything else you may be seeking support for, I am here for you, and you are not alone in this. I want to celebrate and honour who you are, who and how you love, what your dreams are and how to make those dreams realities. I will aim to offer support and be an accomplice as you identify and unpack how factors such as power and privilege, family systems, systems of oppression, beliefs and values, intersections of identity, and trauma influence and impact individual behaviours, sense of Self, as well as relational dynamics, and how you experience and navigate the world around you. I believe we are all relational beings, and that the safety, trust, respect and care signalled by me and established in our therapeutic relationship is fundamental to the efficacy and depth of healing we can do together.

Being human and alive holds times of joy, love and beauty, times of anger, grief, despair, and everything in between, I am here for it all and want to be by your side as you carve your path, deepen your relationship with yourself and others, and venture into what it means to do this thing called life. As much as I wish for everyone to live a radically authentic and unapologetic life, to not only survive but thrive, I know that it is not always safe or possible for people to do so. If this is you, I want to explore ways you can cope, or even make change (when and if possible), when you are having to live in less supportive environments or having to shield or hide parts of yourself.

I apply a client-centered, trauma-informed, response based, systemic lens, and specialize in trauma, identity honouring, relational dynamics, and somatic work. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from UBC, in Vancouver, and a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University, in Syracuse, New York. I have a Certificate of Advanced Study in Trauma-Informed Practice, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I offer in-person and virtual counselling options. Although working with youth is tremendously near and dear to my heart, I am currently only working with folks 19+. My fee is $130 per hourly individual session, and $150 for EMDR and couples sessions, at this time all my sliding scale spots are full.

I consider it an honour to earn your trust and to hold your stories and your heart as gently and as lovingly as I can, and I thank you for inviting me on your healing journey - what an honour, I look forward to connecting with you.
