  • What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. It is based on the belief that the body has a network of pathways called meridians through which energy, known as Qi (pronounced "chee"), flows. The goal of acupuncture is to balance the flow of Qi and restore the body's overall health and well-being.

During an acupuncture session, a licensed acupuncturist carefully inserts needles at specific acupuncture points along the meridians. These points are chosen based on the individual's symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment goals. The needles are typically left in place for a short period, ranging from a few minutes to around 30 minutes, while the person lies comfortably.

Acupuncture is commonly used to address a wide range of health conditions, including pain management, stress reduction, digestive issues, respiratory disorders, sleep problems, hormonal imbalances, and emotional well-being. It is often sought out as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments.

The needles used in acupuncture are extremely thin, so the insertion is generally painless or accompanied by minimal discomfort. Many people experience a deep sense of relaxation during the treatment, and some may feel a mild sensation or tingling at the insertion points.

Acupuncture is considered a safe and well-tolerated practice when performed by a trained and licensed acupuncturist. They adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards, ensuring the use of sterile needles and proper disposal after each session.
